Federal Supremacy is Crucial for Secure Borders.

The Laken Riley Act is a hot topic today on the Sunday morning news shows but the implications of this legislation on the ground go beyond rhetoric.

Every member of the U.S. Senate represents their state’s constituency and upholds the Constitution. Montanans deserve Senators who hold the executive branch accountable, oversee fraud, and prevent abuses of power.

Like citizens in all states of the Union, Montanans have two U.S. Senators responsible for holding the president and the executive branch accountable to the law and to the nation. With broad oversight over government and society in hearings and committees, our Senators are also powerhouse investigators who can subpoena witnesses and experts to examine issues in both public and private sectors.

The inclusion of two senators per state was historically intended in the Constitution to make sure smaller populations were fairly represented at the Federal level. The amendment should retain its purpose 238 years later.

Are Montana’s U.S. Senators champions for our state or are they pandering to political propaganda? Are they beholden to national rhetoric or actually providing checks and balances and serving Montanans with their actions?

How does the rhetoric in The Laken Riley Act serve Montana?

Montanans are welcoming and fair people who believe in upholding code of law and the U.S. Constitution, including due process for all individuals on U.S. soil as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.

The Laken Riley Act removes due process in a broad stroke, indicating one isolated incident proves illegal immigrants are responsible for a disproportionate rate of violent crime and therefore should be deported without trial or hearing.

Zero evidence exists that being an illegal immigrant makes one more prone to committing violent crime. Ample evidence actually suggests the opposite is true.

This act is little more than political theatre on both sides of the aisle with an end to undermine our constitutional rights.

America deports illegal aliens who commit violent crimes against American citizens. In fact, we deported approximately 271,000 unauthorized immigrants last year, marking the highest number since 2014 and surpassing the peak during President Donald Trump's administration.

America deports illegal immigrants, period. This is a Federal issue that cannot be left to states to determine one-by-one. Federal supremacy over the border is paramount. Otherwise, it's chaos.

A strong, secure America has only one Federal border policy.

Illegal immigrants make up 2.2% of Montana’s population. No evidence exists that these individuals commit disproportionate rates of violent crime in our state.

We do have very clear evidence that 38% of homicides in Montana are victims of domestic assault, mostly women. 15% of unnatural deaths in Montana are due to suicide, mostly men by a striking ration of four to one.

Montana’s leaders must address these real issues with effective, constitutional policies instead of divisive rhetoric. Let’s demand solutions that strengthen families, protect the vulnerable, and uphold our principles.

Montana’s future depends on it.
