Montana Needed a Farm Bill Yesterday

I'm running for the U.S. Senate to fight for a real Farm Bill: one that restores funding, invests in our communities, and reflects the needs of modern agriculture in a changing climate. Montana cannot afford to wait any longer. Our rural economies, our food systems, and our families are depending on it.
From the windswept plains of the Hi-Line to the fertile valleys of the Bitterroot, agriculture is the lifeblood of Montana. Today, that lifeblood is under threat.
The Farm Bill has long expired and critical programs are not cut or frozen.
Where is Steve Daines? He’s not even showing up.
It's been over six years since the United States passed a new, comprehensive farm bill. The current extension maintains existing programs but does not address evolving challenges in agriculture and nutrition.
Current budget reconciliation proposals introduced by the House Agriculture Committee suggest slashing up to $250 billion more in baseline funding beyond the recent indiscriminate cutting of grants and essential services. These cuts have already gutted conservation programs, weakened crop insurance, and drastically reduced nutrition assistance, including SNAP.
This is a deliberate effort to dismantle the safety net and infrastructure that keep rural communities afloat.
Meanwhile, Daines says nothing. He doesn’t defend our communities. He doesn’t challenge the $250 billion in proposed Farm Bill cuts that further gut conservation programs, crop insurance, SNAP, and school nutrition.
Daines does what Trump tells him to do and Montanans pay the price.
The Farm Bill is a comprehensive framework that supports our farmers, feeds our families, and sustains our rural economies. Its lapse has led to the suspension of essential safety nets which should be guaranteed by our tax dollars.
This isn’t just about agriculture. It’s about our future. Our land. Our people. Our food. This is about restoring real government that works for the people, not a government that lets billionaires write the rules while the rest of us get left behind.
I’m running to fight like hell for Montana and make sure our farms, our food systems, and our families are not left behind. This campaign is about restoring real government for the people, not tyranny that polices our bodies, ignores our land, and lets billionaires write the rules.
I will listen, serve, and deliver.
Montana cannot afford another year of delays. The clock is ticking, not just on the Farm Bill, but on our entire democracy.
