National Parks Under Attack

Glacier and Yellowstone are symbols of Montana’s natural beauty and engines for the economy of our state.
Every year, millions of people travel from around the world to see our landscapes, fish our rivers, hike our trails, and support our local businesses. In 2023 alone, visitors to Glacier and Yellowstone contributed nearly $1.3 billion to Montana’s economy and supported over 13,000 jobs.
These parks also play a crucial role in environmental stewardship. Forests absorb carbon. Watersheds feed our farms and towns. Their biodiversity is part of what makes Montana so unique and worth protecting.
All of this is at risk with the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” passed by House Republicans. This bill slashes funding to the very agencies charged with safeguarding these lands.
The bill proposes deep cuts to the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service, cuts that would eliminate staff, delay maintenance, and hollow out fire preparedness just as the West faces longer, hotter, more dangerous fire seasons.
These are no abstract numbers on a spreadsheet. These are jobs of park rangers in West Glacier, fire crews trained to defend our towns from wildland blazes and trail crews, interpretive rangers, and the maintenance workers who keep our public lands safe and accessible.
If these cuts go through, Montanans and vacationers will see it in closed campgrounds, slower emergency response, canceled prescribed burns, and a real hit to tourism-dependent communities like Gardiner, West Yellowstone, Whitefish, and East Glacier.
As your U.S. Senator, I’ll fight to restore full funding to our national parks and forests. I’ll work to ensure federal fire science and mitigation programs are expanded, not gutted. I’ll push for year-round staffing, better pay for frontline workers, and long-term investments that protect our public lands from climate threats and political neglect.
Montana’s economy, culture, and future are tied to the health of our wild places. These are lifelines to a healthy economy in our state, an investment in our future and the legacy of wise ones who came before us.
I will always defend the legacy of our National Parks.
Contact Montana's senators in D.C. and make it clear: Our National Parks deserve support and protection.
